12월 6일(토)부터 12월 27일(토)까지 부산 해운대구 맥화랑에서 김정명 작가의 개인전 《그들에게 경의를 (To Them, With Honor)》이 개최됩니다.

 1945년 부산에서 태어난 김정명은 홍익대학교 미술대학에서 조각을 전공하고, 계명대학에서 미술교육학 석사 학위를 받고 1982년부터 2008년까지 부산대학교 예술대학 미술학과에 재직하였습니다. 반세기 넘게 회화, 조각, 오브제, 설치를 넘나들며 한국 현대미술의 독자적 흐름을 개척해온 작가입니다. 〈스크랩〉, 〈책〉, 〈손가락〉, 〈말풍선〉 등 다양한 연작을 통해 인간의 자의식과 문명, 이미지의 과잉과 공허를 탐구해온 그는, 최근 작업인 〈예술인자〉와 〈그들에게 경의를〉 시리즈를 중심으로 폭넓은 작업 세계를 이번 전시에 선보입니다.

 이번 전시는 작가가 예술사의 계보 속에서 자신의 위치를 다시 사유하며, 물감 파편에서 새롭게 태어나는 예술의 가능성을 탐색하는 자리입니다. ‘수평적 사고와 수직적 사고가 교차하는 지점’을 강조해온 그는, 오랜 시간 구축해온 조형 언어와 예술 거장들의 흔적을 결합해 새로운 입체 회화로 확장합니다. 《그들에게 경의를》는 과거에 대한 헌사이자 미래를 향한 질문이며, 우리가 어떤 예술적 DNA를 계승하고 다음 세대에 어떻게 전달할 것인가에 대한 깊은 성찰을 제안합니다.

 From December 6 (Sat) to December 27 (Sat), Gallery MAC in Haeundae, Busan, will present Jung Myung Kim’s solo exhibition To Them, With Honor.

 Born in Busan in 1945, Kim studied sculpture at Hongik University and earned his master’s degree in art education from Keimyung University. He later served as a professor in the Department of Fine Arts at Pusan National University from 1982 to 2008. Over the past half-century, Kim has pioneered a distinctive trajectory within Korean contemporary art, working across painting, sculpture, objects, and installation. Through series such as Scrap, Book, Finger, and Speech Bubble, he has explored human consciousness, civilization, and the excess and emptiness of contemporary imagery. In this exhibition, he presents a broad spectrum of his work, with a focus on his recent series Artistic DNA and To Them, With Honor.

 This exhibition invites viewers to reflect on the artist’s reconsideration of his place within the lineage of art history, while exploring the potential for art to be reborn from fragments of paint. Highlighting the point where “horizontal and vertical thinking intersect,” Kim expands his long-established visual language by merging it with traces of the great masters. To Them, With Honor serves as both a tribute to the past and a question toward the future, offering a profound meditation on the artistic DNA we inherit and how it may be passed on to the next generation.
